CAS Adoption Support

Support to Adopted Adults, Birth Parents and Adoptive Parents

Program Purpose

Support throughout the life-long journey of adoption

Overview

CAS understands the importance of supporting the adoption constellation (adults who were adopted, birth parents, adoptive parents, adoptive family members, and significant others) through a full range of services.  Recognizing that adoption is a life-long journey, services are available to support the individual and/or needs of the constellation members. When CAS was a part of the adoption plan, supportive services are available with file updates, non-identifying information reports, and intermediary services. Available to all adoption constellation members (regardless of prior CAS involvement) are counseling services with an adoption competent therapist.

CAS also offers a free monthly discussion group, Let’s Talk!, to support and build community among adults who were adopted. Contact csandefur@childrensaid.org for more information.

Services

  • Counseling

The CAS Adoption Support Program provides adoption-focused counseling and referral services. Post-adoption services are available on a sliding scale fee.

  • Intermediary Services

When an intermediary is needed to facilitate communication between an adopted person and their birth family member, the CAS Adoption Support Program can help.

  • Non-Identifying Information Report

When CAS was involved with the adoption plan, an adopted person may request a non-identifying information report. The report is compiled after a thorough case file review and will include available non-identifying information.

  • Adults who were adopted through CAS may contact the Adoption Support Program for help in searching for their birth parents. Birth parents who were involved with CAS in making their adoption plan, may update their CAS file to include current contact information and medical history. Contact csandefur@childrensaid.org for more information.

  • Information and Referral

A social worker is available to answer questions regarding adoption issues and practices.

  • Let’s Talk! is a free monthly discussion group for adults (19+) who were adopted (no prior CAS involvement required). This is an open group that is adoption-focused with the purpose of building community through shared experiences. Let’s Talk! is not a therapy group. RSVP is required; contact Caron Sandefur at 205 943-5361 or csandefur@childrensaid.org with questions.
